With over 40,000 undergraduate students at the University of Texas, it isn’t always easy to find a place to study.

Luckily, there are numerous places both on and off campus that are perfect for students to hit the books. Whether you like a little background noise or total silence, prefer to walk from class or are up for a drive, you’re sure to find a spot that suits your needs.

At Rambler, residents get to enjoy a study mezzanine featuring both private conference rooms and an open study area overlooking the coffee shop and lounge. Additional study rooms are also available throughout the project. However, we know that sometimes you just need to switch up your studying scenery.

To help you explore the variety of locations to get some work done, we’ve created a list of some of our favorite study spots around Austin for UT students.

On Campus

The Texas Union

Nicknamed the “living room” of campus, the Texas Union is an amazing study spot because of its diverse lounge spaces. From spacious patios to empty meeting rooms, there’s a spot for everyone. Home to various restaurants including Panda Express and Starbucks, the Union is perfect for long-haul study sessions.

Life Science Library

Located inside of the historic Main Building, the Life Science Library’s exposed wood completes the space’s ‘collegiate’ vibes. This library is great for the student who prefers a quiet setting. Bonus: if you can find an empty seminar classroom down the hall, these are one of the best private study rooms on campus!

Engineering Education and Research Center (EER)

Don’t be fooled by the name; although it’s the largest engineering building on campus, students of all majors enjoy studying in the Engineering Education and Research Center. Popular for its open atrium space and modern aesthetic, the building has received numerous awards for its stunning architecture. 

Off Campus

Civil Goat

Another amazing coffee shop native to Austin, Civil Goat opened their new Guadalupe location in 2020. This spacious spot has plenty of seating both inside and outdoors, not to mention the delicious drinks and pastries. If you’re willing to make the drive out to the Cuernavaca location, you might get to meet Butters, Civil Goat’s friendly mascot!

Austin Central Library

When we say public library, you may picture a dreary space with fluorescent lighting, but the new Austin Central Library is more than a few dusty bookshelves. In addition to a wide selection of novels, art installations and work spaces, the six-story project features a breathtaking atrium with abstract staircases leading up to a rooftop garden.

Medici Roasting

Inside the first floor of Medici Roasting Coffee Shop on Guadalupe across the street from the University of Texas at Austin

Located right on Guadalupe, Medici Roasting is one of the most convenient study spots for students living in West Campus. Medici’s coffee is a favorite among many Longhorns, and the breakfast tacos are a great option if you’re on the go.

Mozart’s Coffee Roasters

Only a quick drive from campus, Mozart’s is a popular study spot for UT students.

Located right on Lake Austin, the gorgeous scenery at Mozart’s is the perfect contrast to a laptop screen. With ample free parking and a seemingly endless selection of pastries, it’s no wonder Mozart’s is one of the most popular outdoor study spots for UT Austin students.

Summer Moon Coffee

If you’re looking for Starbucks vibes with a local twist, Summer Moon is a fantastic go-to for many UT students. With over a dozen establishments in and around Austin, the 1st Street location is the original home of Summer Moon’s unique wood-fired coffee and has outdoor seating.

Lola Savannah Coffee Lounge

Open every day as late as 11pm, Lola Savannah is popular for students needing to get in some late-night studying. The Westlake location is especially spacious, and it’s known among students for its delicious drinks and pastries.
